Tianyu is a dispute resolution lawyer specializing in international arbitration. He has extensive experience representing clients in high-stakes international arbitrations conducted under the rules of leading arbitral institutions, including the ICC, SIAC, HKIAC, and LCIA. While his practice focuses on infrastructure and construction, energy, mining, and natural resources, it also spans cross-border investment, joint venture and shareholder disputes, as well as manufacturing and distribution.

Tianyu is a regional representative for North Asia of ICC Young Arbitration and ADR Forum (YAAF) (2024-2026), an arbitrator of Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration, and the deputy Chairman of Qianhai Belt & Road Legal Services Federation.

Tianyu is a native Mandarin speaker and is fluent in English.

  • Acting for a construction company in an Asian country in an arbitration under the SIAC Rules regarding dispute arising from an EPC contract for an urban infrastructure project. The amount in dispute is over USD 1.7 billion.
  • Acting for a mining company in an arbitration under the HKIAC Rules regarding disputes arising from a share purchase agreement and a shareholders’ agreement for a mega acquisition of mining assets in an African country. The amount in dispute is over USD 1 billion.
  • Acting for an oil and gas construction contractor in an arbitration under the LCIA Rules regarding dispute arising from an EPC contract for a mega LNG infrastructure project in a Mediterranean country. The amount in dispute is over USD 300 million.
  • Acting for an oil and gas construction contractor in an arbitration under the LCIA Rules regarding dispute arising from a subcontract for a mega LNG infrastructure project in a Mediterranean country. The amount in dispute is over USD 150 million.
  • Acting for a construction and company in an arbitration under the SIAC Rules regarding disputes arising from a supply agreement for an EPC project in Russia.
  • Acting for a construction and engineering company in an arbitration under the SIAC Rules regarding disputes arising from a construction subcontract for a world-class oil storage facilities in a mid-east country. The amount in dispute is over USD 50 million.
  • Acting for a forestry development company in an SCIA arbitration regarding dispute arising from a share purchase agreement for the acquisition of asset in a Pacific country. The amount in dispute is over USD 50 million.

  • Acting for a world-leading bio chemical technology company in an arbitration under the SIAC Rules regarding disputes arising from a series of contracts for joint promotion of agriculture seeds in China. The amount in dispute is over USD 30 million.
  • Acting for a construction and engineering company with trial preparation for an arbitration conducted under the ICC Arbitration Rules regarding disputes arising from an EPC contract for a large coal fire power plant. The amount in dispute is over USD 100 million.
  • Acting for a construction and engineering company in a Singapore-seated ICC arbitration arising from an aromatic project subcontract. The amount in dispute is over USD 20 million.
  • Acting for a PRC subsidiary of a large Chinese oil and gas state-owned company on a Hong Kong-seated arbitration under UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules with HKIAC as the appointing authority. The dispute concerns a series of loan agreements for a mega acquisition of oil and gas assets in an African country. The value in dispute is more than USD 1.2 billion.

  • Advising and successfully defending a China state-owned oil and gas company against an application to the Singapore International Commercial Court to set aside a partial final award issued by an SIAC arbitral tribunal.
  • Advising a China state-owned mining company regarding an application to the Hong Kong High Court to set aside a final partial award issued by an HKIAC arbitral tribunal which successfully led to that award being remitted to the tribunal.
  • Advising a Nasdaq listed construction company regarding disputes arising from a residential building project in New York State and the related court proceedings in New York.
  • Advising a Chinese developer regarding dispute arising from a residential building project in New York and the related court proceedings in New Jersey.
